American Portrait travelers will rendezvous with the group finishing our Fall Foliage of New England Adventure at our hotel near Times Square in Manhattan. We’ll participate together in the Manhattan program before the two groups split – Fall Foliage of New England travelers returning home and American Portrait travelers continuing south. We’ll enjoy walks and activities showcasing the heritage of our nation at places like Princeton, New Jersey; Independence Hall in Philadelphia; the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia; and of course, the many attractions of Washington D.C., with two walks available and three nights just across the river in Arlington.

The Adventure begins today in Manhattan. Look forward to 8 unforgettable days of walking and exploring the heritage of this great nation, with a special emphasis on Washington D.C. Since travelers will be arriving throughout the day, no scheduled activities are planned until tomorrow.

Midtown Manhattan Walk, NY 10 km, rated 2
The “Big Apple” offers four top-rated walks. Though you are free to take your pick, your WAI guide will lead the Midtown Manhattan Walk, showcasing one of the most influential cities on the planet and including Times Square, Broadway's theater
district, the Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall, and much more.

MANHATTAN—PHILADELPHIA AREA, PENNSYLVANIA (B)
Princeton University Walk, NJ 10 km, rated 1
Leaving Manhattan, we'll continue west to Princeton for a pleasant walk featuring historic Princeton University. Across the state line, we'll visit Independence Hall in the historic “City of Brotherly Love.” Several events that profoundly affected the founding of our nation occurred within these walls, including the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

PHILADELPHIA—ST. MICHAELS, MARYLAND (B)
Historic Dover Walk, DE 11 km, rated 1
In 1787, Dover's legislature became the first to ratify our new republic's Constitution. Today's walk explores this pleasant colonial-era capital of Delaware. We'll spend the late afternoon and evening enjoying the Chesapeake Bay ambiance of St. Michaels, a charming seaport with a fascinating colonial history and a long heritage in shipbuilding.

ANNAPOLIS—ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA (B)
Historic Annapolis Walk, MD 11 km, rated 1+
This morning's walk across the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis features America's oldest active capitol building, many 18th century homes, churches, and mansions, and the naval acad- emy. Arlington National Cemetery offers the change to pay homage at President Kennedy's grave and observe the solemn changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Washington, D.C. Monuments Walk 11 km, rated 1+
The entire day is devoted to exploring the many attractions in the nation's capital. Our walk passes the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Washington Monument, Holocaust Museum (admission not included), Jefferson Memorial, Smithsonian Museum, Capitol Building, and the White House.

This morning's activity will be your choice of a second walk in the D.C. area OR a walk on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. This afternoon, consider joining us for an optional excur- sion to George Washington's Mt. Vernon Estate & Gardens, the charming country home of our first president. Tonight we'll reminisce about our many adventures at a farewell dinner.
